When reading a new collection of poetry, especially by a poet whose work I am seeing for the first time, I enjoy the metacognitive journey I experience through the mind of the poet as well as through my own reawakened perception. This heightened awareness is articulated in the first lines of the first poem in this collection: who are we / she murmurs / slithering out / of the escape of sleep. Those lines are a perfect description of the creative process as well as the act of perceiving a work of art. As I made my way through Francis Osho s collection of poems and sketches, I was reminded again and again of the complex interaction between poet and reader. |
