Long, long ago, in ancient India, a king by name Shanthanu ruled over a kingdom, with Hasthinapura as the capital. One day, while on hunting, he arrived on the bank of the river Ganga, where he saw a beautiful woman, with whom he fell in love, the very instant he set his eyes on her. He approached her and revealed who he was and expressed his wish to marry her and make her his queen. The woman smiled and said she would, provided he did not question her whatever she did after their marriage and that she would leave him the very instant he transgressed the said condition. He agreed because he was so infatuated with her and they got married and started to live a happy married life. |
