Newell’s words ring with wisdom. He is a world traveler, restless spirit, a seeker of beauty and a visionary. As age advances, he seems to settle into the comfort of his memories; lover of the common: weather, animals, people, the present, past, and all things that only seem lost. Feel the music in this work. One could imagine air that surrounds them filled with the likes of Armstrong, Davis, Ellington, and Coltrane. Music is in his breath, his line breaks. I don’t suppose for a moment I am the first person to have their life fundamentally influenced by one of Newell’s “Harry” poems. They touch my heart so.

	Michael L. Newell was born in Florida in 1945. In addition to living in thirteen states, he has lived in Japan, The Philippine Islands, Thailand, The United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Mexico, Egypt, Estonia, Saudi Arabia, Bolivia, and Rwanda. He currently lives in a small town on the Florida coast.
