Chuku is a trilingual version of the Chinese reading primer (pronounced Choo-goo in Korean). Along with the Four-Character Proverbs (translated by Han and published by Cyberwit in 2018) and the Thousand Character Text, Chuku was a reading primer for young children at Confucian schools in premodern Korea. This book offers an English translation for Western readers, as well as a Korean translation for Korean speakers. In this book, readers will encounter lessons on benevolence, uprightness, propriety, wisdom, self-discipline, and other timeless Confucian virtues. |
