Vijaya's Cherish is the result of a deeply intimate, symbolic self-exploration of the lessons of the past, challenges of the present and unlimited potential of the future. Beginning with the "Abecedarian Poem," the poetic subject outlines a trajectory of growing awareness of the self in a complex and contradictory world, quite literally from A to Z. Poems such as "From ruins to rise" and "The 'Shining' House" seek to give concrete realization to moments of doubt or confusion; indeed, the whole of the work stands as a testament to the passage from childhood innocence to the reality which we may face either as victims or with active imagination. This gives the verse "not a fairy tale … but for real" (in "My first love") that much more significance.
Editorial ReviewsIn all, Cherish does just that the book cherishes life, love, illumination, family, and the opening of the soul to the world and to itself. --Robert Simon Kennesaw, GA We notice in these poems quite impressive imaginative leap that will certainly appeal to all readers. Due to melody of diction in these poems, the sound of the words and phrases lingers in the mind for a long time. --Dr. Karunesh Kumar Agrawal (Managing Editor) Cyberwit.net |
