"Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile, smile, smile", flavored the morning with the 75 year old plus lyric. The world was at war as WOR's John Gambling and his boys (in the band) tried to broadcast a cheery note to listeners starting their day. Newsman Prescott Robinson offered war news, and kids off to school would soon pledge allegiance to the flag, wear white shirts and red ties on assembly day, as some deserving fifth and sixth graders would pin on triple A badges as they manned their posts along stairwells and exits. |
