Lulzim Tafa
Lulzim Tafa is a Poet, Rector of the AAB University in Prishtina (2012 - 2020), and University professor. He was born in 1970 in Lipjan, Republic of Kosovo. He completed his bachelor and master studies at the Faculty of Law of the University of Pristina, and his doctoral studies at the University of Sarajevo with a dissertation in the field of Law. Academic engagementLulzim Tafa has extensive experience as a full-time and visiting professor in the field of criminal studies at several universities in Kosovo and abroad. During his academic career, he has performed important functions, including managerial positions in research centers, faculties, and university departments. He has been a member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals and a member of the governing boards of several organizations in the fields of law, human rights, and criminology. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Steering Council of AAB University, the largest university in Kosovo, where he has established himself for his creative and democratic leadership, making the AAB University the main center of higher education, arts, and culture in the country. He is the founder of the Human Rights Protection Center at AAB University, as well as of the Cultural Center, and the Professional Theater “Faruk Begolli”. As a POET, Lulzim Tafa belongs to the generation of poets of the nineties, a time of the wars that broke out as a result of the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. This was a time when the people of Kosova were facing ethnic and cultural obliteration. He started writing poetry as a primary school student with his first poems published in the school literary magazines, while his first book of poetry was published while he was a university student. During the 1999 war, he was in Kosovo whereby all of his possessions were burnt down with their family house, including his library, his pictures, and most notably a manuscript with over 300 poems. After the war he carried on writing poetry, engaging in the field of human rights and freedoms, promoting peace and freedom for everyone. He has also intensively lobbied for animal rights. Even though a lawyer by profession, his primary and vital occupation is literature. He is the author of numerous books and collections of poems. His poems are translated into several languages of the world and are included in many anthologies by different authors, some of which were awarded literary awards. Heretofore his works have been translated into the following languages: English, German, Italian, Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Bosnian, Macedonian, Romanian, French, Arabic, Greek, Turkish, Swedish, Hungarian, Russian, Romani, etc. He is one of the most famous Albanian poets in the world, and the most translated one as well. Publishers from all over the world have translated and published his books, while authors and literary critics from Kosova have appreciated his artistic creativity. The most famous international literary magazines in the field of literature have published his works as well. He is a regular member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a member of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Literature in Paris, an external member, and an honorary member of several prestigious world academies. He is also the recipient of many awards and acknowledgments by different universities and organizations, local and international institutions, such as: “Nadje namad” in Lebanon, “Pablo Neruda” in Italy, “Mihai Eminescu” in Romania, “Alexander the Great” in Greece, “Ramadan Sinani” in Macedonia, “Radovan Zogovic” in Montenegro, etc. He also has been laureated with “Doctor Honoris Causa” by numerous international universities. For his contribution in the field of literature, the President of Kosovo decorated him with the Presidential Medal of Merit in 2018, the highest honor dedicated to living personalities for extraordinary contribution in the field of literature and arts. |
