Chris C. Stevens

I was born January 6, 1961 a third child to Robert & Amy. Soon to be joined by three more siblings. The family moved from North Bay, Ontario to Hamilton then eventually settled in Brampton where I attended school at Sir Winston Churchill P.S. as well I was a member of the Brampton Senators Drum & Bugle Corp. Around the time I turned 16 we moved up to Orangeville, Ontario where I attended high school at Orangeville District S.S. It was here that I started writing poetry, not just for English classes, but also for my friends to give to their girlfriends, hopefully it helped them out.

In my final years of high school I met a woman I would marry. I was married when I was 20, soon after my first child was born. Crystal was born in 1982, followed by Zachary in 1983 and finally Candice in 1985. In 1986 their mother decided that being a wife and mother wasn't for her and she walked away from the family. I carried on raising my three children alone, trying my hardest to do the best I could for them. I guess what they say about parenting is true, you never know how well you are doing until it is all done. Well I think I must have done something right, the three of them have turned into great adults, and my heart bursts with pride for each of them.

Patience does pay off , a wonderful woman came into my life. In 2001 Wendy and I made a home together along with her daughter Kim. My children have also opened up their hearts and let her in. We bought an older house together that we have been slowly renovating, she is a great supervisor.

In this book you will find a collection of poetry I have written over the years. I found writing poetry a wonderful way to express ideas and feeling within. I believe that a good poem will make you feel, feel something, anything. A poem should bring a tear, a smile, create yearning or lift a heart. I do hope you enjoy reading through my collection of poetry and perhaps as you read them, you find a tear or a smile.
